A fascinating historical fiction that charts the lives of a Spanish couple, Victor and Roser. Displaced by the Civil War, they are among a small number of refugees taken in by Chile and make a home there for thirty years, until a military coup in that country forces them to seek asylum again.
The author’s family lived through this historical period and she manages to blend fact and fiction remarkably well.
The cast of characters are skillfully intertwined across, countries and classes, so the bigger historical picture is told alongside the story of Victor and Roser.
Definitely worth reading.
