A story of three people who suffer loss, and are themselves lost but with the help of one other they come to realise that old age does not mean that you are dead, and that being abandoned does not mean you are not alone.
Seven-year-old Millie’s father dies and her mother, unable to cope, leaves her in a department store. 82-year-old Agatha has given up since her husband died 7 years earlier, and Karl at 87 is deposited in a nursing home.
But the three find each other and have many an adventure in outback Western Australia before they realise that life is to be lived to the full.
This is a poignant but funny novel, well handled by the author without any sentimentality. A story that will remain in your mind after the book’s end because of the delightful and eccentric characters.
