Another wonderful book from Jane Harper after The Dry and Forces of Nature. Again she captures the landscape – this time western Queensland – beautifully: the reader can feel the heat, the desolation and arid countryside, qualities which are reflected in the characters.

A family of three brothers, the middle charismatic brother Cameron found dead – how and why? It is Nathan, the oldest brother and the outsider of the family, who has to sort out the mess left by this tragedy, while trying to deal with the consequences of his past actions.

Again Jane Harper has written a fast-paced story peopled with characters struggling to live in a harsh climate and to overcome the judgemental attitude of their neighbours. A great read.
