A beautiful, poignant story of love: for the marshlands of North Carolina and its unique flora and fauna, for family, for life.

Kya, the “Marsh Girl” is abandoned by her family and has to scrape a living out of the marshlands she lives in, evading the local townspeople who consider her scum. Told with a dual timeline, at the start of the book one of her friends is found dead – the narrative goes forward and back in this wonderful coming-of-age story until the truth is uncovered.

I absolutely loved it.
